A free, festive celebration of birthdays and “un-birthdays” takes place at Honokaʻa Hongwanji Buddhist on Sunday, April 15, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the temple’s Social Hall. A fun and active take on the traditional day to honor the birthday of Syakamuni Buddha, the 4th Annual Community “Un-Birthday” Party gives people of all ages a chance to celebrate their own birthday, regardless of its actual date.

The event include entertainment by Angel Prince Dance Institue, The Magic of Bruce Meyers, and the New Dharma Band, as well as a birthday cake contest, lucky number drawings for the keiki, and community potluck. A highlight of the afternoon will be a talk by Professor Jeff Wilson, author of “Mindful America,” from the University of Waterloo, Ontario.  He will also lead meditation at the 4 pm session that afternoon.

A potluck lunch will be served, with the food theme of “Men.”

Men are in charge of the meal this time, although anyone is more than welcome to contribute a dish. Potluck coordinator is Earl Tanaka,
